So Long! July 9, 2008

So long everybody. I’m off to work at the California Department of Education, as a consultant in the Secondary and Post Secondary Leadership Division, or SPALD. Sounds like an acronym from a Austin Powers movie.
Anyway, it’s been fun teaching for 10 years but now I’m on to something different and exciting. Email me at home at jdbruin91 at mac.com if you want to reach me.
This message will self destruct in 10 days…..

For the Multimedia Class, we’ll need some royalty free music and sound effects. I’ve found this site:
Royalty Free Music and Sound Effects Download the music and sound effects you need for your multimedia project today at Partners In Rhyme.
I think that we’ll use Partners in Rhyme to get some of our effects, etc. So far, I love that site! Partners in Rhyme, good stuff!

Found this website, Izzy Video, this morning. So far, it looks very good but I’ll keep digging around to see. Izzy has podcasts on iTunes also, which is where I first ran across it.
I’ve put it as a link on the blogroll to the right. Check it out.
Brett Farve’s ideas of leadership December 17, 2007

Just something I read in Sports Illustrated last week. I think it gives some insight into leadership and how to lead by example. Here it is:
“It’s somehow getting 52 other guys to raise their level of play. To get them to believe in what we’re trying to do. You do that by setting an example, by doing things the right way. I’ve always shown up, I’ve always been prepared, I practice every day. I practice hard. I study. No matter what happens on the field, I never point blame at anybody else. Everything I do comes back to leadership, the example I want to set.”

Internet Archive and iSafe sites December 13, 2007
Posted by teacherdunn in For Teachers, Main Blog.add a comment
Just found out about these sites through my friend Gail Desler at the district office. Internet Archive has a “wayback machine” that enables you to see what different internet sites used to look like. Very cool but it’s partially blocked here at school. You can see it from home however.
Another site is the iSafe site. Designed for parents, educators, law enforcement and anyone else that is interested in keeping kids safe while using the internet. Check it out.
One more thing. I’m trying to use this blog to create separate areas for Teachers and my classes. So far, I’m not smart enough to figure out how to post additional comments on the Teacher and Multimedia Class pages above. So for now, everything gets posted here. Enjoy.

PowerPoint Unit – Day one “Bad PowerPoint is Really Bad!” December 10, 2007
Posted by teacherdunn in Computer Tech Classes, For Teachers, Main Blog, Multimedia Class.add a comment
Today we’re going to start the PowerPoint unit. PowerPoint is a very powerful (no pun intended!) piece of software, a tool to help you in a presentation. But…if you create a bad PowerPoint, it can be very bad indeed.
First off, let’s do a search for “Bad PowerPoint” on Google. You’ll find lots of useful information there.
Next, as a class we’ll see a video from a comedian who mocks PowerPoint presentations. Download Video: Posted by jmcmahon at TeacherTube.com.
