You all have work you need to be doing. I’ll have a sub today and expect that all of the equipment will be properly put away. Be good, get your next two storyboards finished, if you aren’t editing. See the post below somewhere that has the storyboard link in it and you can print another one out if you need to.
See you tomorrow.

Folks are editing and shooting, it’s looking good. We’ve got about 7 more classroom days left to finish up so that we can get the projects submitted to the contest.
In the meantime, be working on your next projects. And if you are planning on shooting video to put online, see this video by Izzy Video: Improve Your Online Video
I highly recommend watching that, because so many of you will be posting online via YouTube or other areas in the future.
Have a great weekend! See you Monday.

Today we will go over two individual projects that you should be working on if you have nothing else to be on at the time. These are projects that will need help from a crew but you are responsible for your own edited copy. The following info tells you what the projects are and I will also upload a pdf document for you to download and print if needed.
The movies that go with the projects ARE NOT REQUIRED! You can watch them on your own time, at home, dependent upon your own household rules.
Here’s the info:
1. My World
- Create a 20-30 second action/film/video.
- 10-15 camera angles
- Minimum of 10 edits/cuts/shots
- Storyboard it
- Your choice of music
- Taken from everyday life
Movies that show this style:
Orsen Wells “Citizen Kane”
Mike Nichols “The Graduate”
Alfred Hitchcock “Dial M for Murder”
2. Camera Techniques, Transitions, Boom, Lighting (team but all must do own edit)
- Create dialog between 2 actors
- 30-40 seconds long
- Shoot 4 scenes (for example: quad, shadows of quad (with lights or fill cards), Room lights, etc.)
- Continuity style techniques
- Storyboard each shot
- You will act in it!
- 1 camera and a boom mic or the wireless mic’s
- 2 types of transitions.
- Short script
Movies:
Stanley Kubrick: “2001 a Space Odyssey”, “Blade Runner”, “Dr. Stranglove”, “The Shining”

As I was watching TV last night, I saw some things on the Travel Channel that might be very interesting for some of you, or at least your parents.
First, Anthony Bourdain’s “No Reservations” show has a contest to see what location YOU would recommend that he visit and if they choose your video, you get to go there and show him around. I’m submitting one for sure, but you must be 18 years old to submit. Here is the link: “No Reservations Casting Call”
Second, the Travel Channel is also offering a week long video film making course during different times and locations this year. Cost is $2500, not including air fare, a bed to sleep in, etc. Here is the link: Travel Channel Academy
And here is the link to the graduates Featured Videos. That’s it for ideas. We’re still shooting, editing, etc. in A7, so keep showing up and we’ll get you guys up and running quickly. Two weeks to edit and submit our projects to the competition!

Sorry, no posts lately, every time I tried the network slowed and then other things came up. But we’re back!
We’ll head back to room A7 tomorrow, to use the Apple computers due to the technical difficulties that I was telling you guys about today in class. It’s just a better overall place to have the class until we can fix up D7 later on this year.
Today was more filming and some editing, checking the DVD cameras, etc. Remember to ALLWAYS CHECK THE AUDIO when you are filming. A group yesterday will have to re-do their shots, even though the audio appeared to be working. Double check that to be sure.
And if you are not filming and are done with the vocabulary, I’ll be showing the Episode 38 from SEVA, for you to continue to get ideas from for the competition.

Give the folks who got the video last night of the Talent Show a pat on the back today. They gathered a lot of video and now have to edit it down to something manageable. Today we will start in D7 and then we’ll go over to C5 to begin some editing work using Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0. Those of you who are able to start taping, let’s get you organized and out doing some work. The rest of the folks need to finalize their storyboards today so that they can get to work next week.

Back in D7 today to continue working on your storyboards. The team that will be taping the Talent Show tonight will work with Mr. Dunn to get the equipment ready. Others should continue working to refine and revise your storyboards. Mr. Dunn will look at them and put notes on your storyboards as we check them out.
All storyboards and information should be kept for the final grade, they will be required to be turned in.
And here is the shot log that you should use when doing the actual filming.
More computer lab issues, meet in D7 February 6, 2008

Ok, it’s taking longer than expected to get the software on the computers in D7. So today, we punt again. We’ll meet in D7 to begin our storyboards for our projects.
More ideas for you: the library needs a “How To or Not How To” video to show when they do library orientations in the Fall. Think in terms of a group of kids talking loud and another shot of some quiet kids looking at them funny. Stuff like that.
Also, I got this info from Mrs. Martinez, regarding a possible exercise video.
Good Morning All –
We are also looking at running a contest that would require group participation in the form of making an exercise video. We are looking at the possibility of giving a large prize that would go to a group, club or department on campus but wanted to get your feedback on the promotion first.
So, figure out what you want to do, get a team together and let’s make some videos.

Hey, we’re meeting in C5 today, to see the new projector and other stuff. We’ll be meeting in here for the rest of the semester, so that we can use Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 for our editing software.
Today I will show you how to begin editing your video. We’ll use the library door footage from last week as an example. Hopefully by tomorrow we’ll have the software on the machines and get your other video downloaded.
By Friday, you will be organized into the teams that you will have for the project to produce a video for the SEVA awards. Then we have 3 weeks to get it done and submitted.

Hopefully the C5 lab will be open today but most likely not. We will get to editing on Tuesday but I’m going to show you guys how to begin that process today.
We need to learn how to import your video into the computer to enable you to do the editing. Then we will look at some basic concepts in editing, such as Titles, Transitions and audio.
Here is a link to the Adobe Premiere Elements page with ideas for you to take a look at also.
